As you know, we have compiled a list of hosting companies that run on renewable energy. Others do not have that option, but make sure their operations are at least carbon neutral. Most hosting companies however, simply do not care much about the environmental impact of their activities, and they think that you will never find out anyway.
That is why it makes sense to install the Green Web App in your browser. Every site you visit, every search you do, delivers a world of greenchecks to our system. We are not interested in who you are and what you do where, only in greenchecking as much websites as possible. As the number grows, it becomes less easy for carbon burning companies to say that nobody cares – because it is clear that you do. With around a half million checks a day, you are clearly not the only one who thinks this is an important issue.
Something else you can do: contact companies that you know, if you find out that they are not green hosted. You will be amazed to see how much influence that has, sometimes whole datacenters make the switch if only one or two customers make sure that being green hosted is imperative for their business.
